This is an interesting signing. Everytime Denis Kang seems to rise up the ranks, he has a setback loss that brings him back down to ground zero. I only hope his win over Marvin Eastman will be enough to propel him towards stringing together a couple more victories and then a shot at Anderson Silva.

Kang has been a highly sought after free agent twice in the last 2 years. Once after Pride was bought out by Zuffa and the Canadian fighter opted to land with new Japanese promotion, Dream, while still fighting in his native land of Korea for the Spirit MC organization.

Just 2 weeks ago, Kang announced via MMAWeekly Radio that his contract with Dream was up and he was hoping to sign with a new promotion fairly quickly.

“If it’s going to be an exclusive contract then pay me something that’s going to make it worth my while to be exclusive and not fight anywhere else and not work anywhere else,” Kang said about whatever new promotion he signed with.

Unless something drastic changed, Kang will be with the UFC exclusively as the promotion is not usually in the business of signing open ended contracts.

Will we see the return of Nick Diaz to the Octagon? Dana doesn’t rule anything out:

“I think Nick Diaz is a bad ass. Nick Diaz is a tough kid,” White said in a recent radio interview with TapouT Live. “Nick Diaz doesn’t handle himself right all the time in public. I like him — I respect him as a fighter. I love his attitude. I love the way that kid fights. But you can’t do the stuff that this kid does in public. You can’t get into fights when the fight is over … you can’t do that stuff.”

- Source

He makes a good point. Although, the craziness that is Nick Diaz is one of his selling points, it has no place on the main stages of MMA. If Nick Diaz wants his career to continue to wind down a trail of obscurity, then by all means he should continue on his crazy path. If he wants to, however, put a mark on the MMA world that isn’t just one of infamy, then maybe he’ll wisen up and fly right.

Anderson Silva speaks on why he decided to play it safe in the first three rounds:

“There are many people saying I was disrespecting Cote, but this is absolutely not true,” Silva told Sherdog.com. “My game plan since the beginning was fight five rounds, inducing him to commit mistakes and capitalize on that during the first three rounds and look for the knockout during the fourth and fifth rounds. It was working, and the biggest proof of that is that I almost didn’t waste any blows. I connected with a couple of good punches and knees, but unfortunately he got hurt and the fight was over. This is not my fault.”

I’m surprised Silva was so respective of Cote’s punching power. He didn’t seem too worried about Leben’s power, when he decimated him in the first round. His plan was working as planned, maybe he just wanted to a good aerobic workout. Here’s hoping he learned something for all this. Destroy your opponent in the first couple round or feel the wrath of the mainstream blogger press!
