GSP vs. Matt Hughes for the Interim Title
In a stunning move, Matt Hughes will take on Georges St. Pierre for the Interim Title. I guess they really do want this New Years Eve show to be huge. I can’t say that I really understand the move, apparently Matt Hughes saw that as well.
I’m going to fight Georges St. Pierre on December 29th. I’ve got a couple reasons why I’ve made this decision and I will share those at a later time. I’ve asked for this to be for an interim title and if Matt Serra can’t fight in a year, then this would just be the title fight; but I don’t know if that is going to happen right now. I will keep you all posted.
-MattEDIT: This WILL BE for the interim title, so it will be a 5-round fight. -Matt

Lets go over the why.
Why would you want to fight against someone who dominated you?
This is the question that has me scratching my head. Does he honestly think that he saw some kind of a weakness in GSP’s game after his loss to Serra? I understand redemption, but be smart about it. If you can get another fight in there against a top opponent, that can only be a good thing (Unless you lose of course). I don’t think a boring win over Chris Lytle was a step in the right direction for Matt Hughes.
How about the wow.
Wow, it sucks to be Matt Serra
Your injury was announced and in under a week the UFC already wants the belt off of you. You have your chance to prove that you belong as champion, and you have it completely ripped out from under you. Not to mention the fact that we have no clue how long he’ll be out. Plus he might lose his chance at a high profile match against Matt Hughes. Yeah, if GSP wins, there’ll be a big match between Serra and GSP, but it could have been a bigger match if Serra had beaten Hughes.
Wow, it’s great to be Georges St. Pierre
GSP gets a huge fight, against someone he’s already dismantled. He beat a better wrestler in Koscheck, and there’s no way Hughes’s hands have improved dramatically. GSP should be able to administer the same kind of beating he delivered last time. This could be a Anderson Silva, Rich Franklin situation.
